Is counseling for me?
People of all ages attend counseling for a number of reasons, not just when they receive a mental health diagnosis (although that is a very good reason!). Whether you’re facing a crisis, loss, or desire to live wholeheartedly, counseling has been shown to create positive change. Participating in the counseling process provides an opportunity for personal growth, acceptance, and uncovering the courage to face challenges. Counseling can be proactive as well, especially when you’re preparing to face a major life change such as going to college, marrying, or changing careers. Please contact me if you’re not sure if counseling is the right path for you.
Do you accept insurance?
I am in network with most plans through Aetna, United, Optum, and Oscar. Your out-of-pocket cost depends on your specific plan. You can learn more here.
I can provide you documentation (referred to as a superbill) that you can submit to your insurance company for partial reimbursement if they offer out-of-network benefits. It is the client’s responsibility to contact their insurance company to find out about reimbursement for out-of-network providers.
What are your fees?
The fee for a 55 minute session is $150.
I have a 24 hours cancelation policy. The full session rate is charged in the event of a no-show or appointments canceled less than 24 hours in advance.
Other fees related to parent sessions, document preparation, or court appearances can be discussed with me.
How long will I be in counseling?
Just as individual reasons for attending counseling vary, so does the length of the counseling relationship. Depending on the age of the client and depth of the issue, counseling could take a few weeks, several months, and in some situations clients choose to continue counseling for a year or more. Sessions can also be scheduled for every 2 weeks, or even once a month when necessary. We will discuss your progress regularly to determine the best options for you and your personal growth.
Do you offer teletherapy?
Yes! Quality counseling can still happen in front of a screen, and is accessible to any Texas resident. I use a secure platform for video calls with clients. Call or email today for more information about teletherapy appointments.
What happens during a counseling session?
Counseling is an interactive experience. It is not just the therapist providing advice, nor is it a 55- minute “venting” session for the client. The counseling process is client-led, although the therapist may provide feedback, observations, or suggest alternatives. We will discuss what issues you’ve been facing, set goals, and explore the available paths to help you reach your goals. That exploration might take many forms, including art, journaling, role-play, and homework assignments that help you take what happens in session into your everyday life. Specialized techniques such as EMDR can also be utilized to help accelerate healing and growth.
Is what I share in counseling confidential?
Counseling is a very personal experience. It is normal to reveal information of which your family and friends are not aware. Confidentiality is an essential part of the process, as it helps create trust and safety. However, there are some issues that warrant confidentiality being broken:
- If you reveal information that indicates you are a danger to yourself or someone else necessitating duty to protect or duty to warn.
- If you reveal information about child abuse, neglect, elder abuse or sexual exploitation.
- If you provide written permission or direction to release your record.
- Any other exceptions authorized by law.
